Family Friendly Congregations
Between school,
sports, music lessons, dance lessons, church, friends, entertainment,
and work, families today are pulled in many directions. The result?
Little time is left to just be a family!
When planning church activities think about the families involved.
Are your activities only adding to the over-stretched-family dilemma?
How can you help support and strengthen families of the kids you work
with?
- Acknowledge and honor
parents for their primary role as asset-builders.
- Seek to understand and build
on strengths of families.
- Emphasize the family unit.
- Connect parents with other
parents experiencing similar life situations.
- Provide information on local
resources.
- Get feedback from families.
- Advocate on behalf of
families.
- Develop and provide
resources that bring families together.
- Schedule elements of
ministry with busy families in mind.
- Shift the focus from
congregation-centered/home supported ministry to
home-centered/congregation-supported partnerships.

Crazy
Maniacs
It seems like there
is always some school or community sport going on. If you have teens
who play in sports, play in the band, are cheerleaders, or water
carriers, dance, or play the piano, create a Crazy Maniacs group to go
and support them as often as possible. Make
yourself known at the activities! You may embarrass them a
little, but they'll be proud to tell their friends that those Crazy
Maniacs in the stands are just some adults from church who have come
just to support them.

Intergenerational
Church School
Consider having
intergenerational church school every quarter, or even once a month.
Since the Power & Light Series follows the worship themes, they
would be a great place to start for lesson ideas. Make the activities
fun and interactive. Let the children and youth hear THE STORY from
the adults. Testimonies touch lives! Use the time to prepare for
worship so that everyone has opportunity to participate in some way.
Be creative and enjoy the connection that comes from within the
community of Christ!
