Risk
Management: If you don't know...ASK!
Any time you bring children or
youth together with an activity, there is risk involved. Even the
simplest events contain risk. But as leaders, it is critical for you
to be prepared to manage the risks associated with the ministry. It is
your job to REDUCE the risks from the moment you begin to plan. Before
any activity, ask yourself:
- What is the purpose of this activity?
- How does it relate to our mission?
- Is it safe? If the answer is no, then ask, "How can we make
it safe!" If the answer is yes, then dig a little deeper,
what are the potential risks?
- Does the purpose of this activity outweigh the risks? Can the
risks be controlled?
- Are the risks too great for the safety of everyone involved? If
the answer is yes, then don't do it!
